Consular Section

Voting in U.S. Elections 2008

The Consular Section provides assistance to U.S. citizens interested in voting in elections taking place in the United States.  However, it is each citizen’s responsibility to plan ahead to be sure that s/he is registered and receives an absentee ballot in time to vote.  Information about registration, schedules of elections and absentee voting is available online at: fvap.gov.

To register and/or request an absentee ballot, complete the online Federal Post Card Application (FPCA).  The FPCA is valid in all U.S. state and territories except Guam.  Some states require the FPCA to be notarized.  You can also print a prepaid return envelope to mail the FPCA via the Consular Section.

If you would like to receive your absentee ballots through the mail, you may have them sent to the Consular Section at:

Your Name
c/o Consular Section
2330 Maputo Pl
Dulles, VA 20189-2330

If your ballot will be sent to the Consular Section, please email us at VoteMaputo@state.gov so we know to expect your ballot and the best way to contact you when it arrives.  It is your responsibility to pick up your ballot from the Consular Section.

Many U.S. states and territories now send election materials electronically.  You can find details on voting in your state at fvap.gov.
